I will be cycling, starting on Monday 15th May, taking my bike on two trains to Glasgow. Then setting off next morning, I hope to cycle over 250 miles to reach Cape Wrath in about 11 days.
My daughter Vicky, grandson Daniel (age 9) and other family members are coming up to Scotland on 26th May, for a week over school half-term to join in the final Cape Wrath challenge. The plan is that Daniel will cycle on his mountain bike with me and Vicky will run the 11 mile route from the Keoldale/Durness ferry.
Due to the current popularity of visiting Scotland, accommodation is quite heavily booked, so I have made bookings for every night. I will have to make each day's planned route, regardless of hills, wind, rain or how difficult it is to carry on.
The height of hills on route is also important, whenever possible the distance between overnight stops has been reduced when large hills are on the route. Since I'm not an energetic youngster and my bike will be heavily loaded, I get off and push the bike up many hills
We are seeking sponsorship for the Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust, a brilliant charity that supports young people aged 8 - 24 to rebuild their lives after cancer, through sailing and adventure. Please have a look at their website.
All donations will go to the charity in full since we will be covering all the costs of the challenge.

Important update. - PLEASE NOTE :
Due to lack of time to complete setting up this BLOG before getting on to the trains to Glasgow at the start of challenge, I was unable to give a daily blog of my progress. However I quickly set up a Facebook group on which I posted daily reports of my progress. Unfortunately I’m not really in to Facebook and it appears that even though it was an open group, only Facebook members were able to view it.
Yesterday evening (Sunday 28th May) I, followed only 10 minutes later by my family, reached the Scottish hamlet of Rhiconich where we are staying for one week during which Vicky, Daniel and I will be taking on the Cape Wrath Challenge. This gives me the time to finish setting up this blog, to copy and to paste all my daily Facebook reports on to this blog. This can then be seen by anyone.
